David and Richard Darling are the creators of the Code Masters label in 1986. Together with Mastertronic, they invented the concept of “budget games”: Games for the most famous 8bit systems sold in blister packs at very affordable prices. In the background of the photo, can be seen the Mastertronic products display rack, which in Europe and the USA could be found in many electronics and computer stores.
Among the successful games, the most appreciated were certainly the platforms featuring Dizzy, a jumping egg with legs and an explorer hat, reincarnated in 13 different adventures and 3 collections for many 8bit systems and consoles.
From the budget games made more of quantity than quality, the Darling brothers have come a long way, achieving entrepreneurial success and realizing, always under their renewed label, video games with an important budget such as Formula One, Colin Mc Rae, TOCA, Micromachines, DIRT, all for modern consoles.
